The Point Arena Lighthouse

Pt. Arena, California

When my good friend and client, Luciano Zamboni, called to ask if I could help out with the restoration of the historical Pt. Arena lighthouse, I could not say no. Luciano was the president of the Pt. Arena Lighthouse Society whose role was to restore the lighthouse tower to what it looked like in 1907 when it was built. The original lighthouse was destroyed in 1906 due to the San Francisco earthquake, 125 miles to the south! We also had to restore and repurpose the Fog Signal building, at the base of the tower, to house the rare and magnificent Fresnel lens that was to be moved from the top of the tower to be displayed as the centerpiece of the new museum. While some of the money for the project came from a “Grant” there was a lot of community involvement with local fundraising events.
