Thompson Residence

A young couple approached me in 1976 to design a home on their five-acre site overlooking the Napa Valley. The property sits above the Silverado  Trail and is located near the Silverado Country Club. In 1981 a ridge fire swept down from Atlas Peak and the house was totally destroyed. They loved the house and rebuilt it exactly the same. In 2017 it burned again in the Napa Sonoma fires!

This time I designed a totally different house, (all on one level ), with nothing combustible on the exterior. Masonry was used on the East side to act as a preventative wall in case another fire ever came down from Atlas Peak.
